Your privacy

BlackHood Garage looks after your details carefully. This page says what we keep, why, who helps us, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do. We decide how your details are used, so under UK data protection law we are responsible for them.

What we keep

You: your name, phone number, email and address.
Your car: registration, make, model, colour, paint code, VIN, mileage and MOT history.
The work: what you asked for, the damage, photos of your car, quotes, the work we did, invoices and payments (amount, date and whether it was cash or bank transfer — never card details).
Your tracking link: when it was opened and whether on a phone or a computer. Nothing else about you or your device.
Messages: emails and WhatsApp messages between us.

Why we use it

To quote for and repair your car, keep you updated and get paid. We need your details to do the job you asked for.
To keep the records the law asks for, like invoices and payments for tax.
To run the business well: reminders, checking our prices, and now and then asking how we did. You can ask us to stop these messages at any time.
Photos on our website or social media only if you have said yes. You can change your mind whenever you like.

We never sell your details, and we never pass them on for anyone else's advertising.

Who helps us

A few trusted companies help us run the business. They only use your details to do that job for us:

Supabase keeps our records and photos, on servers in London.
Vercel runs our website and our workshop app.
IONOS handles our email.
WhatsApp carries the messages when we message each other there.
The DVSA (a UK government agency): we look up your car's details and MOT history from its registration.
Anthropic provides an AI assistant that helps us find things in our own records. It may see job details when we ask it a question.

Some of these companies are based in the USA. When your details leave the UK, they are protected by the safeguards UK law requires.

How long we keep it

Jobs, invoices and payments: 6 years, because HMRC asks us to keep tax records.
Quote requests that don't go ahead: up to 2 years, then we delete them.
Photos used with your permission: until you ask us to stop using them.

What you can ask us

You can ask us to:

show you the details we keep about you, or give you a copy
correct anything that's wrong
delete your details (apart from records we must keep for tax)
stop or limit how we use them, including stopping messages

Cookies

Our website doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies are the ones that keep our own staff signed in to the workshop app.
